The Sail @ Marina Bay

The Sail @ Marina Bay is the first residential development in the new downtown marina bay of Singapore.  The design of its two distinctive towers (one 70-storey & another 63-storey), resembles the "sails" of a boat.  With over 1,000 apartments, The Sail @ Marina Bay enjoys direct underground access to the Raffles Place mass rapid transit (MRT) station. The 70-storey tower is currently Singapore’s tallest residential building and among the most slender building in the world of such height.

Key Challenges

  1. The adoption of seismic resistant design – a first for Singapore buildings – to enhance the safety of the slender towers.
  2. Situated on a reclaimed land site, which posed difficult and variable subsoil conditions.
  3. A congested site surrounded by sensitive structures such as Common Services Tunnels (CST) and undercrossed by a operating MRT line.
  4. A tight design and construction period of 40 months for the entire development consisting of two office towers, a carpark block, a basement level, two link bridges and two underground tunnels.
